The outgoing Commissioner of Police, Lagos State command, AIG Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu has decorated 6 SPs and 42 DSPs into their new ranks of SP and CSP respectively. He made this decoration of the promoted officers alongside his DCP (in charge of operations), DCP Ahmed Kontagora, DCP (in charge of finance and administration), DCP Bassey Ewah, DCP (In charge of State CID) DCP Adegoke Fayoade, ACP Olajide Agboola, and Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan. This decoration ceremony was done as a follow-up to the approval of the respective promotion to new ranks, Trek Africa Newspaper reports.
Giving a standing ovation to the promotees as he addressed them, AIG Hakeem Odumosu shared: ‘Promotion is a privilege not a matter of right. You are privileged to be promoted. The promotion given to you is added responsibility. All those things that made you to be recognized on the field, improve on that.’

Harping on building public trust, AIG Hakeem Odumosu as told the officers to be civil in their conduct. ‘You cannot do this job without the members of the public. What binds us together is trust. If there is not trust in a relationship, it will collapse. You have to earn it from the members of the public. We are very few compared to the population, that is why you must cultivate the trust, be professional, humane and know there is law of karma where you are doing your job.’
‘We came into this job from civil life and by the grace of God we will return to civil life, we will never die in service. Now that you have the opportunity and privilege to put on this uniform, treat civilians the way you want to be treated, treat civilans the way you want your family and friends who are not police officers to be treated, treat them the way you want to be treated when you go back to civil life.
‘Politics is here. 2023 is here. Any assignment that is given to you, make sure you do what you can defend. Be ready to defend your actions. Don’t allow anybody to use you. That Lord that made me succeed will make you succeed’, advised the outgoing Lagos CP.
In the same vein, DCP Adegoke Fayoade advised the newly promoted officers. ‘With this rank, a bigger responsibility is placed upon you and you must ensure that you behave responsibly and let your officers know that you are continuing the good works. Don’t go and relax and say you are the boss. We are not the boss, we are servants and members of the public and we must put them at the frontburner of policing.
When you leave home and return in the evening, you should be satisfied that you have done your job very well and have attended to those who came to see you for assistance. Reduce their stress and pains, don’t add to it. Go back to your offices and give your best so that you can prop up the image of the Police.’
Also addressing the promotees, DCP Ahmed Kotangora said: ’They say respect begets respect. If you respect members of the public, they will also respect you. If you dress well, they will respect you because you are addressed the way you are dressed. You have all been promoted and that is higher responsibility. Some of you are field officers and traffic officers but you will now become DPOs which is much more responsibility. Many are called they say few are chosen but this time around, very few are chosen. You are among the chosen ones so therefore be very grafetul to God Almighty. You have been promoted don’t betray the confidence reposed in you and don’t disappoint the Nigeria Police and your immediate boss. Do your best and earn Nigeria Police a very good name so that you can move with your shoulders high wherever you go. Do not belittle yourself where you go among your colleagues in other security services. Show that you are the best after all the Nigeia Police is rated as among the best in the world. Let’s keep the flag flying.’
