By Tajudeen Adebanjo

The Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has inaugurated a two-week training programme for the residents.

The training was part of the council chairman’s Health, Education, Youth & Women Empowerment, and Social Infrastructure (HEYS) agenda.

It was in partnership with SPEED-UP LAGOS; an initiative of Lagos state government, to empower the citizens through vocational training and skills acquisition.

The participants were being trained on fabrics/souvenir production, catering and food technology, make-up and Gele tying, cosmetics production and home essentials, fish farming, mechanical engineering and electronics.

The council Chairman, David Odunmbaku, urged residents to utilise the training opportunity and all the potential to gain financial and economic independence.

He promised that more empowerment programmes are in stock as the exercise was not a one-off.

Head of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) Department, Mrs Oluwakemi Adegbenro called on the residents to participate in the training.

“These training cost a fortune at other training institutes. We have made it available for free. This is a rare opportunity that should be utilised. So, we would further use various means to draw the attention of the people to the programme.”

A facilitator, Remilekun Onasanya, an official of Necessary Measure against Poverty and Perversity (NEMAPP) under the SPEED-UP Lagos initiative, said the training will improve the lives of participants.
