Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola addressing the press.
Minister of Works & Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola in Lagos on Thursday reaffirmed the eviction order given to illegal occupants especially mechanics who ply their trade under the recently constructed Berger/Kara Under-Bridge to leave on or before November 30, 2021.
Addressing them, Fashola recalled that eight months ago he warned them to leave as they occupy the Federal Government right of way.
Fashola said the law empowers him to force them out in seven days but, on compassionate grounds, he decided to give them a longer time to find another location.
The minister told the illegal occupants that whoever was collecting money from them, assuring them of an extended stay, was swindling them.
He said: “If anybody is collecting money from you and promising that you will not leave our right of way just know that you have been swindled because, legally you are not supposed to be here. It doesn’t matter how long you have plied your trade under the bridge. I advise that you write to Ogun State Government and copy the Controller of Works in Lagos and Ogun to ensure speedy response to your getting acres of land to relocate your business in a more decent manner.
I assure you the governor will provide a suitable place and l also promise to put in a word for you for easy passage, but if you defy us we will respond because the law allows your group only seven days to leave,” he warned.
